Humidifiers versus air purifiers

A humidifier adds moisture to the air. An air purifier cleans the air: it removes particles, and sometimes gases, from it. The two do different jobs, and a combination product that does both is a different product from either one alone. This guide explains the distinction, so a buyer orders the right product. No purifier products are listed on this site, and no combination product is listed either.

Different jobs

A humidifier's job is humidity: raising the moisture in dry air to a comfortable level. A purifier's job is cleanliness: reducing dust, pollen, smoke and other particles in the air. Dry air and dirty air are different problems, and they need different products: a humidifier will not clean dirty air, and a purifier will not moisten dry air, whatever their descriptions suggest.

A buyer who needs both should say so, and should expect either two products or one combination product, confirmed as such. A buyer who needs only one should order only that one: a humidifier for dry air, a purifier for dirty air. Ordering the wrong one for the problem will not solve the problem, however good the product is at its own job.

Combination products, described, not listed

A combination product adds moisture and cleans air in one unit. Combination products exist in the market, and the frozen vocabulary includes their names, but this site lists no combination product: the storefront lines described here are humidifiers and lights, and no purifier or combination product is among them. A buyer who needs a combination product should name it in the inquiry, so the supplier can confirm from real stock information whether it is available.

A combination product should be judged by both its jobs, separately: how well it humidifies, and how well it purifies. A combination that does one job well and the other poorly is not a good combination for a buyer who needs both jobs done. The inquiry should ask about both jobs, with specifications for each, not accept a single general description.

Name the problem — dry air, dirty air, or both — and the space it affects, the quantity you have in mind, and the market you sell into. Ask for the specification for the exact type, the quantity terms, the lead time, and the certificates for your market, by name, with documents attached.
